Xi Jinping (chinesisch 習近平 / 习近平, Pinyin Xí Jìnpíng, IPA: [ɕǐ tɕînpʰǐŋ]; * 15. Juni 1953 in Peking) ist ein chinesischer Politiker der Kommunistischen Partei Chinas (KPCh), seit 2012 deren Generalsekretär, Vorsitzender der Zentralen Militärkommission (ZMK) und seit 2013 Staatspräsident sowie „Überragender Führer“ (chinesisch 最高领导人 Zuìgāo Lǐngdǎorén, englisch Paramount Leader) der Volksrepublik China. Er gilt angesichts seiner autokratischen Machtfülle mit der Konzentration mehrerer Ämter in seiner Hand als einer der mächtigsten Politiker der Welt. Xi ist der Sohn des chinesischen Politikers Xi Zhongxun, der zur ersten Generation der Führung der Volksrepublik China unter Mao Zedong gehörte und 1959 stellvertretender Ministerpräsident wurde. Doch schon vor der Kulturrevolution verlor sein Vater 1962 alle Ämter; 1978 rehabilitiert, wurde Xi Zhongxun wieder zu einem einflussreichen Politiker.
